TEACHING SPECIAL GROUPS
1.TEACHING BEGINNERS
Firstly one has to be able to recognize the beginner level of the students
before starting the lessons.Below are the different levels of beginners:
-Absolute beginner
-False beginner
-Adult beginner
-The young beginner
-The beginner without rman alphabet
Knowing and understanding these various levels enabkes a teacher to be able
to come up with the best apporoach,teaching methods,predict possible weaknesses
and challenges etc.
TIPS FOR TEACHING BEGINNERS
1.Understand and meet the students needs.
2.Give clear and simple instaructions.
3.Pace the lessons and also have clear and realistic aims.
4.Use only English throughout the lesson and ask lots of questions
5.Chord repetitions.
Just like any other lesson there are problems a teacher might experience during
a lesson for beginners this might be that the students have mixed abilities,running
out of material,the students might not understand etc.So to address these issues together
with the tips above also pair weak and strong students together,repeat if students dont understand
and if you have run out of time save the uncompleted work for the next lesson.
TEACHING INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS
These lessons are informal in their nature and they are student centered as in the students
needs are well attended to.Moreover these allows the teacher to come up with activities that specifically
suited to the students interests or preference as some students might want lessons that are more
focused on conversation so the teacher will focus on that .

-Short stories
-Horoscopes
-Idioms
-Taboo words
-Music,e.g a pop quiz
-Recipes ,e.g students present on the favorite receipe.
-Phrasal verbs.
TEACHING CHILDREN
Tips for teaching children;
-Lots of repetion
-Always give positive response to the childs utterances
-Speak slowly and clearly and sometimes its necessary to use a higher
pitch and exagerated tonnation.
-Always use English
-Give clear demonstrations of the response you require
-Be prepared to come down to their physical level or sitting withthem on the
floor.
-Be fun and a bit silly for their amusement.
Children need frequent changes of activities,which are exciting and fun to stimulate their curiosity
therefore when planning a lesson is something one has to consider so as to ensure that
the lesson consist of various activities and that no one activity drags on for too long.
Business English /English for Specific Purposes
Teaching can take place in one of the following ways;
1. One-to-one:This is basically teaching an idividual
2.In-company group:A group collegues
3.In-school group:A group of business people from different companies who come are in the same
language school.
Problems incurred with teaching Clients
1.They may be tired since they are usually from work.
2.Mixed abilites since they are notgrouped according to their Language level.
3.Some might not be motivated to learn English
To address some of the issues above its important to know and understand the clients
before starting the English lessons. Its important to find out the reason the want to learn
English and what they plan to use the skill for in the future.Moreover try and figure out their
needs and there language ability level.
