This unit explains evaluations and testing. Tutorials, evaluation by the students, and tests are the different ways to assess a student's language level. Different types of tests should be given throughout different parts of a course. Placement tests are designed to enable teachers to place new students into a new class according to their language level. Progress tests should. be used periodically to determine what language has been retained and what has been forgotten. Diagnostic tests are given at the start of a course to determine what the student already knows and to help teachers prepare lessons and materials. Practice tests should follow the format and structure of the external test which a student is preparing for.
