Modal verbs such as can, could, may, might, should, would, must, have to, have got to, need to, and ought to are used to express obligation, possibility, advice, ability and permission. They are used before the main verb and they don't change in form according to person.
Passive voice: It is used to focus on the subject when the one who does the action is not important or not known.
Clauses are divided into three categories:
Independent clause: It forms a complete sentence.
Dependent clause: It is not a complete sentence.
Relative clause: It is a dependent clause that modifies a noun.
A relative clause can either be a defining clause which is essential to the meaning of the sentence, or a non-defining clause which isn't not essential to the meaning of the sentence.
Phrasal verbs: A phrasal verb consists of a verb plus one or two particles. A particle can either be a preposition or an adverb.
There are three types of phrasal verbs:
Intransitive (Type 1): They can not be followed by a direct object.
Transitive separable (Type 2): If the object is a noun, it can come either between the verb and the particle or after the particle. While if the object is a pronoun, it can only come between the verb and the particle.
Transitive inseparable (Type 3): The object comes after the particle. It includes phrasal verbs that have two particles.
