Here Below you can check out the feedback (for one of our units) of one of the 16.000 students that last year took an online course with ITTT!

This unit discussed common situations that a teacher may find himself in, such as teaching a class for the first time, having students of different levels, teaching large classes, having students who use their native languages and students who have difficulty with listening or speaking activities. When a teacher meets a class for the first time, he shouldn't use the course book, instead, he should use activities during the first lesson to establish rapport between the students, understand the needs of the students, find out their English level and their interests. These activities include questionnaires, pass the ball game, needs analysis, and "Tell us about" communicative game. The teacher needs to engage the students and motivate them to use English at the beginning of each lesson. This can be achieved through short, fun activities such as Pictionary, hangman, tongue twisters, and memory games. Teachers are bound to have classes where students are of mixed levels. In order to deal with this, there are some actions that they can take such as: 1) Dividing the class into two groups and use different materials for each group. 2) Using the same material with different tasks 3) Pairing strong students with weaker ones When a teacher is faced with a large class, he can resort to these techniques: 1) Pair and group work 2) Worksheets 3) Choral drilling 4) Appointing group leaders Students usually tend to switch to their native language during the class, but the teacher can minimize that through the following: 1) Ensure that the instruction to the class are clear 2) Only respond to English 3) Make sure that the speaking activities are at the students' level Some students are unwilling to participate in speaking activities. Here are some ideas to encourage them to speak: 1) Use pair work and role play 2) Ask them to record themselves outside the classroom 3) Use controlled practice When the students do activities at different paces, it is useful to keep some extra material or activities to give it to students who finish early.
