This chapter taught me about the two productive skills in language learning: writing and speaking. These skills are just as important as receptive skills because they are necessary for an integrated understanding of English communication. The speaking skill can be broken down into two parts: fluency and accuracy. Accuracy is usually taught in the study phase of a lesson, focusing on pronunciation and correct use of the language. Fluency is practiced during the activate phase. Fluency practice activities usually allow students to experiment and get creative with the new language that they have learned. Writing involves a number of skills: spelling, punctuation, creativity, and penmanship. It is important to take into considersation the students’ language and how their alphabet and layouts for writing may differ from English.
