Conditionals are “if then” statements which describes something which is likely to happen but which depends on something else happening. The basic five conditionals are zero conditional which reports irrefutable actions and facts in present tense. First conditional reports something happening in the future which is probable, likely or certain to happen. Second conditional reports something that may have happened in past which is present hypothetical or unreal. Third conditional refers to hypothetical past action with present untrue or impossible consequence. Mix conditional mixes the at least two conditions with a third clause with past actions with present hypothetical.
The main grammatical rule for reported speeches is that the tense of the reported typically changes from present to past whether simple, continuous or perfect.
