This unit covers Receptive Skills - Reading and Listening. These skills may be employed to understand specific pieces of information or for enjoyment/ pleasure. There are specific skills that will help build a students comprehension abilities - predictive deduction, scanning for specific information, skimming for general information, deducing information from context and finally detailed information where we read every word for comprehension. Problems may arise in levels of language used, topics that are chosen (look for variety and balance between authentic and non-authentic texts) or in engaging the students effectively by addressing their interests in topics
