Unit 20 was abit of a refresher unit. Understanding how to deal with kids in a large class will be useful in all ascpects of teaching. The most important aspect that resonates with me are the segements regarding how to handle the students with regards to using their native language (as I have been on the students end, when partaking in Japanese studies) as well as how to make sure I build a rapport with students. Building rapport will be so crucial in gaining the students' trust, attention and building their self esteem regardless of what is going on outside their classroom life. Another important factor is how to handle reluctant students. I, myself have had these kind of experiences when having to handle the pressures of English class speeches. I would not like the students I teach, to go through the same damaging period I went through. I would relish the opportunity to increase their self esteem and confidence as well as their receptive and productive skills to attain their targets and goals. Confidence is a major role in the human psyche and having high levels of confidence enables children to grow and learn. Yes we are aspiring teachers but we are also fellow human beings and role models.
