Despite all the skills and knowledge that come with TEFL training, there are some difficulties that are commonly encountered by teachers in the classroom. First lessons, for instance, are usually overwhelming for both teachers and students especially if it's a new group. In this case, it is vital to establish rapport between the students and to get to know them through a questionnaires and ice-breaking games. It is also advised to start with warm up activities such as Pictionary and tongue twisters at the start of every lesson in order to get the students motivated and interested. One of the biggest challenges that EFL teachers confront is students with different levels in the same class. To solve this problem, teachers can either use different materials for each group, or keep the same materials but provide tasks that suit the students' level. Large classes can also present problems for the teacher in terms of classroom management. There are a lot of ways to avoid them, such as using worksheets, dividing the students into pairs and groups, appointing group leaders. For monolingual and reluctant students, it is always recommended to encourage them to use English and maximize their involvement in the learning process. This unit was very informative because it tackles inevitable issues in EFL classes and the techniques to overcome them. I learned that in order to ensure a smooth and successful lesson, it is always important to be proactive.
