Conditionals and Reported Speech
Conditionals are sentences containing “if or when”
We have five main conditionals, which are:
Zero conditional, refers to actions and facts that aren’t refutable.
The First conditional is about a real situation that will happen in the future once the “if” is satisfied.
The Second conditional communicates an unreal future.
The Third conditional refers to a hypothetical past action with a hypothetical past result.
The Mixed conditional is about a hypothetical past action and the hypothetical present result. It is usually a mixed between the second and third conditional.
Teaching ideas:
In this part, I really enjoyed myself watching how my students played Nuclear bunker role play! That was a very intense debate. One said (the teacher) “If I live, I´ll teach that competition is the beginning of every war, having a competitive mind is what got us here on the first place”. We were all wowed about that thought.
On the other hand, I found out that playing “split sentences” with A1, A2 students was very fun, considering that I made flash cards, place them on the tables and then, they started creating their conditional sentences.
Again, thank you ITTT for giving these wonderful teaching ideas that my students are already enjoying. It makes the class for lively and appealing to both parts.
