This unit explains modals, phrasal verbs and passive voice. Modal auxiliary verbs are can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, have to, have got to, need to, needn't and ought to. These are used to express obligation, probability, permission, ability and advice. The passive voice differs from the active voice due to the focus of the subject. Passive voice is used when the subject not known, not important or we do not want to mention it. There are three different type of phrasal verbs: intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable.
