Andijan, Uzbekistan TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
Beginners are not all the same. Some of them might have never been exposed to English, some others might, or we might have to work with adult beginners which are highly motivated to learn while young beginners might not be as much, but will pick up language more easily. There are also the beginners which need to learn the roman alphabet and will require much more writing and reading practice. We have also learned of different teaching techniques and problems we might encounter when teaching beginners.
Teaching individual students is becoming more and more frequent. The student will probably be more motivated and relationship will be closer, which is and advantage for the teacher, but it can also become a bit boring from the lack of classroom dynamics.
When teaching children it is important to keep in mind that they will have a shorter attention span, for which it is necessary to change activities more frequently. It is also good to keep in mind the role of the teacher in these cases and how children will look at her or him for guidance and approval. The classroom should be a pleasant and positive environment.
It might also be the case that we have to teach English for business people or for specific purposes. This can be quite a challenge and it is necessary to understand what are the needs and goals of the students. This can be done through a needs analysis form that should be completed by the student and teacher. According to the results, we will be able to plan the following lessons for those specific clients.
Finally, sometimes we will be working with multilingual classes, in which students have different mother tongues, or monolingual ones. In any of the cases, it is recommended to avoid using the students mother tongue when teaching.
So, what we have basically learnt today is that when teaching different kinds of students, we will need to keep in mind the specific needs of the group or person and according to that, manage and plan the classes. Every kind of group will have advantages and disadvantages when it comes to teaching and learning, but if we take care enough we will be able to make the most of it.
