Unit 20 showed common problem situation that might occur during the lesson. It is important to establish rapport with the students and set the tone for the rest of the course. I learnt about activities that help the teacher to find out about the students, their needs/aspirations with English, their English level, and that help to establish rapport between the students. Also, there are different warm-ups that may be used at the beginning of the lesson to motivate the students and make them interested in the subject that they are going to learn. There is always a possibility of different levels of the language in the group. To solve the problem of gaps, the teacher can use different materials for students in different groups, or give them same materials but with different tasks, depending on their level. Other two options are to pair stronger students with weaker one or don't do anything at all. As a English learner in a third country (China), I had difficulties in understanding the tasks at the beginning of my leaning path. I had several classmates that spoke my native language and helped me with the problems that I had during the lesson. I think the teacher should be more patient to the use of native language during the class but also control it in the way of limiting it by giving students a certain time to use it if it is really necessary.
