Westonaria, Gauteng TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
First, this unit explains the roles of a teacher. For example, a teacher should love teaching, be fun and exciting, be sensitive to a student's needs when giving correction, and be kind and polite. Also, this unit breaks down the roles of a teacher, such as being a controller (reading aloud to the class and providing explanations), an organizer (putting students into groups for activities and evaluating them after), and an assessor (providing feedback and grading to students). This unit also discusses the different levels of language proficiency such as a beginner (no language experience or very little), intermediate (lacks fluency and makes some basic errors but can converse on a wide variety of topics), and advanced (is fluent in the language and is able to converse on any topic, but needs work on more subtle aspects of language). This unit also describes the differences between adult and young learners, with adults tending to be more motivated but sometimes more rigid in terms of fixing bad habits or being 'stuck in their ways'. Younger students sometimes lack motivation and discipline, and can have short attention spans. The youngest students (12 and under) tend to be more engaged and have an easier time absorbing language. Finally, reasons are given as to why students learn English; such as traveling, moving to a country that speaks English primarily, or just for fun.
