The present tense in the English language is a pretty multi-functional tense in terms of describing actions, movements, habits and facts. There are 4 present tenses: present simple (habits, repetitive actions), present simple continuous (actions at the time of speaking, plans and future), present perfect simple (actions beginning in the past with relevance to the present moment) and present perfect continuous (similar to present perfect simple except describing continuation from the past with present relevance). The function of each describes actions in some way, shape or form relating to the present time.
