There five main conditionals are: 1. zero conditional (irrefutable facts and actions), 2. first conditional (a real situation in the future which is probable or certain) 3. Second conditional (a hypothetical situation, which is unlikely true), 4. third conditional (hypothetical past actions and their hypothetical results), 5. mixed conditional: (hypothetical past actions with hypothetical present consequence). 2 important notions to remember: direct (Cathy said: I saw him) and reported speech (which reports the action described by direct speech, "Cathy said she had seen him).
