This lesson was more difficult than the previous two lessons. I say this because I have not learned these concepts in any other class I have taken. I was learning a lot more in this section. What sticks with me is that every lesson should start with Engage and end with Activate. I think this method is actually really useful and effective. I also liked how there is a main focus on having the class be student-centered by always engaging the students. Another lesson I liked within this unit was the corrections lesson. When I taught ESL for the first time, I was always puzzled that my co-teacher would not correct grammar mistakes in essays. I see now that she was focusing on the actual lessons, and not the grammar that is not part of the lesson. As stated in this lesson, teachers do this so that the student is not overwhelmed with the amount of corrections. I know now not to correct a student on something that is not part of the lesson. The last thing I learned in this lesson was that it is very important to distinguish between an error and a mistake. I think this also ties with praising the student. Correcting a mistake a student has made might discourage the student. I think a good way to correct a mistake would be to say, "I know that you know this concept, can you correct your own mistake?"
