Past tenses:
Past simple: form (subject+verb+ed+object) regular
• For completed actions in the past. I played basketball yesterday.

We use auxiliary (am, is, are) for negative and interrogative forms
For example: I was not seeing him.
Were you meeting him now?
Past perfect: form (subject+had+ past participle+object)
• Action completed before another action.
By the time I rang Sara had taken shower.
We use auxiliary (had) for negative and interrogative.
For example: I hadn’t seen him yet.
Had you met Sam?
Past perfect continuous: form ( subject+had+been+verb+ing+object)
An action that began before a time in the past and continued up until that time with no indication whether or not the action continued beyond that time.
By the time I rang Sara had been taking shower for 10 minutes.
We use auxiliary (had) for negative and interrogative forms:
