This unit is an introduction to the world of Business English and what it entails. From this unit, I understand that my role as a Business English teacher will be to "marry" the language and the technicalities of a particular field. For general business English teaching, the technicalities may or may not come from the students, or the clients themselves. I am mostly comfortable with this as I had over 5 years of experience in the corporate world and understand the needs of using Business English.
However, for more specific business English teaching such as teaching for medical or law practitioners, teachers might also need to receive the inputs from the students. This is also similar to when I had to prepare media training materials for my clients from various industries, which ranged from real estate to engineering. I had to first collect information from them before preparing scenarios that are familiar to them, but in a setting that they might not be used to being in - live news interviews.
