Authentic and non-authentic materials were covered in the main TEFL course that I attended. This unit delved deeper to how it can be applied in the Business English context and the flexibility of using a mix of both authentic and non-authentic materials in class. I find that using authentic materials breaks the monotony of learning from the textbook and it allows students to experience what a native English speaker might come across on a daily basis, giving them some motivation on continuing their language studies.
Lesson planning was the main focus on this unit, and I thought it was pretty straight forward and similar to General English teaching with the usual ESA method. This method is quite universal and would definitely be the main method that I would use for my teaching in the future.
