In this unit I learned a great amount about different teaching techniques and methods. I covered Grammar-Translation, Audio-Lingualism, Presentation, Practice, and Production, Task-Based Learning, Communicative Language Teaching, Community Language Learning, The silent way, Suggestopaedia, and The Lexical approach. I went over the different tasks and ways that teachers can elicit responses from students, such as flashcards, drawings, gap-fill, etc. A very important part of this unit was the Engage, Study, and Activate methodology. I went over the definitions and descriptions for each of these terms, and then learned different types of ESA lessons such as the Straight Arrow lesson, Boomerang, and Patchwork. I also learned different activities that can be helpful during each of the engage, study, and activate phases as well. I also went over when and how often to use correction techniques on students.
