In this unit I learned about the productive skills - speaking and writing. I learned that the reasons for communicating are that people have some communicative purpose, they want to say something, they want to listen to something, or they are interested in what is being said. I learned the difference between accuracy activities, which are usually part of the study phase, and are concentrated on producing correct language, and fluency activities, which are usually part of the activate phase, and these are concentrated on allowing the students to experiment and be creative with the language. Different speaking activities in the classroom are controlled activities, guided activities, and creative communication. I learned about different techniques to encourage student interaction, and then went over a typical free/creative speaking activity lesson. I learned the differences between written text from speaking. These are handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation, and creative writing. I then looked over a typical creative writing activity lesson. I then learned about different games in the classroom and the ways that they help students.
