This unit is about receptive skills. Receptive skills include reading and listening. Reading and listening could be done with purpose or for entertainment. Some skills used to read or listen include skimming, scanning, predicting, deduction, and detailed concentration. To make it easier for learners, a teacher could: pre-teach important vocabulary; carefully select materials to reinforce student learning using non-authentic and authentic texts; select topics for the lecture that will be of interest to your class; create interest in the material by being enthusiastic; and by assigning tasks that promote comprehension which are challenging but doable.
