There is no best way to group students or arrange the seating as they depend on various factors that would determine if a group work or pairwork grouping would be preferred as compared to a whole-class or individual placement. Similarly, depending on the what the teacher wishes to accomplish with the students and the degree to which student participation is required would determine the classroom arrangement in rows, circles, semi-circles or individual desks. According to the group setting and classroom setting, there would be an appropriate teacher position. This unit highlights the need to maintain a balance when it comes to addressing all students equally and individually. Depending on which stage of the ESA method a teacher is applying in class, it would determine the extent to which there would be teacher talk time as compared to student talk time. It is crucial for teachers to come down to the level of the students understanding and make an effort to communicate using simple English rather than eloquent English that would be lost on beginner students. I believe it is very important to establish a rapport between teachers and students as the saying goes, you have to give respect in order to earn respect. Maintaining discipline is necessary but it should not be at the expense of discouraging students and ruining a conducive environment to learn for students. All these skills take time to establish and would come in handy. It would not do a teacher good to have the theory or content knowledge but not have the skills to manage the students well enough to have a successful class.
