This unit helps highlight the importance of lesson plans. Lesson plans help create and maintain a logical sequence of the lesson. Lesson plans act as a guide for teachers to stay on track of the lesson aims and objectives. Lessons plans help keep track of the various topics covered and the different types of materials used during lessons. Lesson plans also make it easier for replacements teachers in the event a teacher is unable to make it for a particular lesson. Though lessons plans help teachers accomplish all of the above, it is important that teachers know how to adapt the lesson plan to suit the students and their capabilities.
There are several things that are included in a lesson plan such as student objectives, teacher aims, context and focus of the lesson, materials for the lesson, anticipated problems for the students and teachers as well as solutions for them respectively The procedure, phase, timing, interaction options such as student to teacher (S-T), teacher to student (T-S) and student to student (S-S), as well as other general information about the class and students like the class level for example, beginner or advanced level students, number of students and date and time.
It is necessary for teachers to follow the 'D' 'E' 'GO' process for the study phase activities which involves teachers first and foremost demonstrating the process of the activity, for example, using the first question as an example done together as a class. Followed by eliciting the correct answers from the students finally followed by giving out the worksheets to be completed.
It is crucial for teachers to follow the lesson plan with the feedback and correction cycle.
After this process is completed, teachers may use their time to monitor the students while the students are engaged in the study phase activities. Lastly, teachers should close the lesson before moving on to provide feedback and applying the correction cycle. It is important for teachers to follow the three stage correction cycle to keep students motivated and encourage students to keep trying. The three stages are self-correction, peer correction and teacher correction.
This unit is very helpful when it comes to creating a lesson plan from scratch.
