The main idea of this unit was how to effectively use materials and course books in the English language classroom. The two types of materials were defined and examples of each were given. Authentic materials being materials that have been produced for a real purpose. While non-authentic materials have been produced for the specific purpose of being a teaching aid. Both play a role in the English language classroom and can be used at different times with there advantages and disadvantages. Along with materials how to write a successful lesson plan was also discussed in this topic. The key components of a lesson plan: level of students, number of students, context of the lesson, objectives, anticipated problems for both the teacher and the students are some of the main components. Lastly, classroom management and tools for maintaining order in the classroom were discussed in this unit.
