Unit 2 focused on several general themes on language learning and development, including key learning theories, pedagogical approaches, and how to adapt teaching methods to students of specific age groups. I am somewhat familiar with several learning and development theories, including the Maturationist, Environmentalist, and Constructivist theories, but this unit inspired me to learn more about these theories. In particular, how I can apply the Constructivist theory to my own teaching. I also appreciated the section on ESA Lessons, as that is part of the process I use when teaching. I believe it is the most natural and engaging way to organize lessons for young learners, and helps me as a teacher to identify knowledge gaps. I learned several applicable considerations in the section on Maturation. I teach students that range in age from 4 - 12, and many of the students who are 11 and 12 require different teaching methods. My curriculum places a lot of emphasis on reading at the higher level lessons, but I agree with the idea that speaking is the most important skill, and reading and writing should come last. I try to mitigate the heavy amount of reading in my higher level classes by giving students more opportunity to talk.
