Unit 3 covers several key components of course development, including level testing, designing a syllabus, limiting factors that may affect syllabus design, making adjustments to syllabi, syllabi types, content exams, and the 3 stages of course evaluation. I learned a great deal about course development for young English learners. My current teaching position has prescribed syllabi with very little input from teachers, so I was largely undereducated on syllabus design. I am familiar with various testing types and purposes, but this Unit and the Unit Tasks went in to much more depth on the different tests and examinations in this field. I now have a much better idea of which exams and tests I would like to use in the future as a teacher, and I also have a better understanding of why my current employer uses the types of exams they use. I do not have an opportunity to implement my own syllabus in my current teaching position right now, so I am creating a syllabus for my informal preschool teaching of my 3 year old daughter. This will enable me to further explore the concepts in this Unit and apply them directly to a curriculum I am designing.
