Unit 3 discusses course development, from how to assess the language levels and needs of students, to designing a syllabus, to exams students may need to prepare for, and finally evaluations for both students and teachers at the end of a course. Level testing at the beginning of a course will show how well students can use the language. A needs analysis can be done in order to determine a student's previous learning experiences, what they will use English for, and areas they feel will be most beneficial to learn. With this information, groups of students can be arranged more effectively. The unit also covers syllabus design, which may be affected by things such as the material your employer wants you to cover, how much time you have, resources available to you, the ability and age range of groups, and how many progress tests and assessments you want to have. It is important to have regular testing in your course, to see how effective your material/teaching is, and to measure student progress. Finally, it's also important to have students give feedback at the end of a course to help you evaluate what you can do to make future improvements for your courses and students.
