This unit covers the basic components of what a good teacher is and what a good learner is. Several characteristics that a good teacher can employ are prompting students, monitoring classwork moderately, modeling the English language in a way that motivates learners, giving learners enough time to explore the language for themselves, and being a resource, tutor, and participant.
Characteristics of a good student is an individual willing to learn, who asks questions when unsure of a concept, a desire to experiment with the language through learning, and a willingness to be corrected.
The Unit also covers some general measures of fluency, ranging from A1 (Breakthrough, Basic User) to C2 (Mastery, Proficient User). The chapter also goes into more detail about the ability of learners at each level (elementary zero to very little; advanced can carry out fluid conversations with accuracy on a wide range of topics.)
Overall the Unit gives an overview of what teachers should expect and what should be expected of themselves.
