Students may have difficulty in learning some vocabulary more than other this may be simply depend on the similarity of the vocabulary to students own language or English words already known ,spelling and pronunciation these type of words may just end up being receptive vocabulary and not productive. Students need to now the meaning ,usage ,spelling ,correct pronunciation of the vocabulary item .
When teaching grammatical structures is important to highlight the meaning ,use ,forms and patterns ,spoken and written forms for example when writing 'i want to...often becomes I wanna in spoken form.
Language functions include areas such as refusing,insisting ,giving opinions ,suggesting etc. The language function based lesson requires a lot more activation activities than grammar and vocabulary lessons hence its usually characterized by patchwork and boomerang ESA lessons.
