Unit 1 is about what makes a good teacher and learner. It takes a look at the different roles of the teacher and when to use which role. It addresses the categories of young learners and compares the differences between adults and younger learners using different elements such as learning experience. The 6 language levels are also explained which can be linked to The Common European Framework. I have learnt that the most important aspect to being a good teacher is that one has to put their learners first. A teacher can have all the knowledge and resources in the world but if they do not care about the actual learning process of the students and how they learn best, it is of no use. The teacher should set the scene, be the example of what they would like to see and expect. The one cannot expect one thing from the other if they themselves are not making an effort. I have also learnt that there are different language levels and teachers must know before hand the class of students they will be teaching in order to adapt their lessons accordingly. For example, a more advanced student would not appreciate very basic content and terms. It would not challenge them and they would lose motivation and interest. Just the same way as a beginner learner would not be motivated to learn when the level of difficulty is above their level. In conclusion, teachers fulfill different roles and must adapt to each role according to the activity and what they want the learners to achieve. Together, a good teacher and a good learner can make a successful learning environment.
