Unit three includes many different theories to learning that a teacher can make use of in the lessons to be taught. Deciding on which methodology is the best one to use depends on which method will expose students to as much of the English language as possible, the assigned communication tasks to be completed by the students, what the teacher feels is best for her particular class of students, the creation of a safe, stress free learning environment and the ability of the students to be able to discovery knowledge for themselves.
I have learnt that all lessons should include certain stages - engage, study and activate. They do not necessarily have to be in the exact order as stated above but they must begin with the engage stage and end with the activate stage. The engage stage should engage students completely, the study stage should assess understanding of the new language and the activate stage should allow for creativity from the learners and to use language as fluently as they can. I believe that these three stages should be practiced in all lessons taught by the teacher in order to keep learners motivated and interested in learning. There should be a variety of different activities for learners to participate in to appeal to different learning styles, strengths and interest areas. At the end of the day, students need to be motivated, involved, exposed to the new language as much as possible and have the opportunity to use it.
