This lesson we learn about different way of evaluating students levels and progress in the classroom. There are a few ways to assess a language level through tutorials, evaluation and tests. The first thing is through tutorials which can be with an entire group or one person. It would be difficult to do it with every lesson but sometimes at the end of class set aside some time to review work, discussion of tasks performed or where there were any problems.
Evaluation of the students is for important in recognizing what they are learning and understanding. It is a time where the teacher can discuss whether the student is having a difficult or easy time, future lessons to consider or even if there is enough balance of materials being taught. Evaluation of students also aids in the awareness of the teacher to make sure students are retaining the information being taught.
It is most often appropriate to give tests during different stages of a course. This helps the teacher get an idea of the level of the students, progress and areas of strength & weakness. The first test is a placement test which gives the teacher an idea of what level you are at so the student can be placed in the appropriate learning level. Another test that is given is a progress test which is given throughout the course to see what has been retained or information that was acquired. Another valuable test that identifies areas of difficulty and is taken at beginning of the course is the diagnostic test. This test aids the teacher in preparing futures lessons. Practice tests are also a formatted test that is designed to help the student prepare of the real exams in the classroom. There is also general external examinations such as TOEFL, IELTS and TOEIC. These are all tests for people that are trying to be proficient in English communication. There is the Cambridge Assessment which is designed for students to get certified in English to either work or for study purposes. Lastly there is the Trinity College of London. This test is for learners of age 16 and over who speak English as a 2nd language and are looking to live in the UK.
