The two productive skills are speaking and writing. Although quite different, both are important; however, it is harder to focus writing since class time should be more focused on speaking, since they don't have that opportunity at home. Speaking requires more fluency, meaning the students must be able to think on the stop and produce language on very short notice. Since mistakes in speaks can be amended immediately, there priority on fluency. When writing however, accuracy is more important as correction can not be made once a text is written out. Also, if there are punctual and spelling errors, it can often come off as if the writer is uneducated, which is a big disadvantage when trying to send out professional messages. When the students activity are speech based, the teach should encourage the students to speak by making a comfortable environment where student aren't afraid to make mistakes. It is good to encourage interaction between the students. Writing activities will usually be left for homework, but there should still be some extent for practicing writing in class. Usually creative writing is great to encourage, especially when an engaging activity is chosen, such as writing poetry or filling in a comic strip. To engage students into speaking and writing activities, games should be utilized and powerful tool. It is not simply a time killer, but and entertaining and engaging method which is enjoyed by all age groups. Many normal games can be creatively tweaked to become a English language study game.
