Teaching English changes depending in what environment or context it is being taught in. Special needs are involved when teaching children and other needs are required when teaching to employees of a business. For young children, there is a higher focus in being fun and having variety, while also maintaining discipline. Activities should be kept short, and vary from each other, and every student should be treated equally. Children are easier to teach in the sense that they retain language learned much better that older students; however, they usually lack motivation if it doesn't come from curiosity, which is why keeping the lessons interesting is more vital to kids. For business students, usually students will be required to take the English course to keep their jobs, and thus usually have more motivation to learn. It should be noted that the teacher does not have to be an expert in business, as their job is to teach English. Usually employee students are going to the English class after work, and are most likely already exhausted, so a slow in pace should be considered. Usually these are course are paid for by the company, so instead of students being placed in a class by their level in English, they will be all grouped into the same class, for economical efficiency. This means that you will have to make a larger effort to meet the needs of the individuals since everyone's level is different. It is useful to do an analysis exam to determine what each student is going to be using their English for, and also to find out what each student believes they need improvement in. Overlapping topics should be covered first, then later addressing the specific needs to smaller groups.
