I was happy that the unit pointed out that reading lessons are easier for students to work with because the words are printed on paper. They can be read over and over again and words translated to help with understanding if needed. Listening skills are more difficult to grasp because they are not permanently inscribed. I also like how the lesson makes a distinction between authentic and non-authentic text. Each is very important, neither should be used only, and a good mix of the two is the best way to effectively teach. I wonder if a study has been done about the reasons that people read. Do people read more text that is teaching them or do they read more for pleasure?
