Perfect forms feature the form of the verb ‘to have’ and the past participle of the verb.
Perfect continuous forms feature the verb ‘to have been’ plus the -ing form of the action word,
The Past Simple form is used for actions completed at a definite time in the past. It is important for the students to learn. And memorize the irregular verbs as there are no rules for them to follow in identifying irregular verbs.
The Past Continuous takes the form of the auxiliary verb (was/were) plus the present participle (verb+ing). It is used to express an action which began before that time and continued after. It van also indicate the gradual development of the action that took place in the past.
The Past Perfect refers to actions that occured before other actions in the past.
The Past Perfect Continuous talks about longer actions in the past that had been going on continuously up to a.certin time.
The students certainly would need a lot of drills and practice to master all these tenses.
