I have to say that Past tense is not easy for both teachers and students. In the unit, I learnt that there are four types of past tense.
Past simple tense is for a completed past action.
Past Continuous is for action in progress at a past time or for the interrupt Past action; we also use the Past Continuous in descriptions with the past simple tense.
Past Perfect is for the action completed before another Past action.
Past Perfect Continuous is action begin before a past time and continued up until that time with no indication whether or not the action continued beyond that time.
In my opinion, it is very important to show the students many examples to help them identify the different usage of these past tense before letting them make sentences by themselves.
The speaking practice in this part is also very necessary.
