This unit was about the roles of the teacher and the students. As an education major, I agreed with all of the roles presented for a teacher to have. A teacher must be flexible and be able to change from one role to another quickly and with little attention being brought to the role switch. Before this unit, I was unaware that some of these roles had a name and were distinguishable from other roles. For example, I would not have come up with participant as a separate role, but after the reading I can see why it should be put in its own category of roles. I have had some experience with learning the differences between young learners and adults. I have taken a class on teaching English language learners and have also seen these differences first hand. I volunteered in Laos at an English camp ranging from ages 3 to 18. I also worked with some locals one night on learning business related English. It was interesting to see the differences between teaching young learners and adults. Thinking back on my experience, I am able to remember the English levels of some students I worked with and put them in the correct language levels presented in this unit. Many of the students I worked with (children ages 3 to 7) were most definitely in the beginner level for English.
