Evaluation is a really important part of the teaching course although I can see why not all teachers like it. I think that it's important because that way a teacher knows the strengths and weaknesses of the students and knows where to focus. Some schools require that the students must take exams so in that case a teacher just have to comply with what's required by the school. The job of the teacher is to make an exam that could serve as a good measure of the progress of the students. There are different types of tests/ There's the diagnostic test that students take at the beginning of the course so the teacher know the level of English of the students. Also, placement tests are helpful to place the students at the level they are at. In the end, I do believe there are way more creative ways to measure the students progress during the course but I know some kind of test is required and can help too.
