This unit discusses the importance of receptive skills: reading and listening. It is very important that teachers choose material for the students that will be engaging for everyone. Just catering the interests of a select group of students will allow part of the class to feel ostracized, therefore it is very important to pick subject matter in which everyone will have an enjoyable time learning. I particularly liked the example of using Elvis Presley and asking the class to study him, and then allowing students to share with the class their favorite celebrities using the newfound vocabulary.
