In this unit, I learned more about how to manage a classroom. By using eye contact, gestures, and voice as a way to engage different interactions. These can be used to convey different messages to the students, such as who is talking or involving the students into the disussions.
Classroom arangement and creating groups is one way to get students working together. In a small class for example, a horseshoe shaped setup can be used to create a more relaxed setting in the class. This will also create a less dominating impact from the teacher, allowing for whole class discussions or making pairings much easier.
TTT should be kept to a minimum even though it plays a useful roll in the class for students to be exposed to the language. Creating more time for students to speak and practice actively in class is much more important. TTT though is important during certain times, such as giving instructions to students about the exercises, which should be clear and consistent. Though having students explain back to you what they need to do is a great way to ensure their understanding and provides more STT.
Ensuring the class is well managed, knowing your students, setting up an effective seating arrangement and group activities will ensure a good rapport between students and teachers.
