This unit involved two videos of actual classroom lessons to compare and contrast. Video one showed a teacher who was frustrated and impatient with a low level of student participation and comprehension. Teacher talk was high, elicitation techniques were not always followed, and activity instructions and modeling were poor. The second video showed the same teacher and class with very different results. The attitude of the teacher was notably more positive, and his adhered much more closely to the techniques described in previous units of this course. Student participation and comprehension were much greater, and teacher talk time was reduced. My conclusion was that technique and methodology as well as the attitude and demeanor of the teacher both contribute to the overall effectiveness of the class.
