This was definitely a difficult unit since it present ideas that were quite alien to me as a native English speaker. We learned about the differences in rise/fall and fall/rise patterns and how they can have different effects on the same sentence. These two patters have different usages, with rise/fall typically denoting the end of an idea and fall/rise indicating the person has not finished speaking or he is expecting a response from the listener. We also covered intonation, which is volume and pitch, and how that may effect the meaning of the sentence. The rest of the unit covered the different physical aspects of creating sounds and what kinds of sounds are then created.
