This unit covered course materials, especially the advantages of using authentic and created materials. The unit offered many examples of crosswords, flashcards, and role playing cards. The unit then covered the advantages and disadvantages of coursebooks. Students often expect a coursebook and it offers a suitable syllabus, but it also carries the disadvantage of becoming boring/expected and may make the teacher lazy. It is important for the teacher to either omit unnecessary or inappropriate lessons, replace aspects of the lesson, supplement the lesson with other activities, or adapt the lesson to the style of the teacher.
