A good teacher has different roles and qualities to succeed in teaching English. Organizer, assessor, monitor are some of the roles required. Kind, patience, entertaining are some of the qualities needed. The teacher has to be aware of when to adopt different roles and skills masterfully to keep the students motivated, feel comfortable and have fun learning English. Some of the students in a group class may qualify as ‘good learners’: the desire to experiment with the language, willingness to ask questions, etc. It will also depend on their age bracket. It’s the teacher’s task to know the students’ age and motivations. By knowing the students’ age and motivations, the teacher can picture in his/her mind the common personality of the age bracket and adapt his/her teaching to the group of students. Knowing the level of English of the students' group can help the teacher to see which lessons to teach and activities to prepare in order to help the students to start their career in learning English or to improve what they already know.
