This unit helps in identifying and defining receptive skills; namely reading and listening. I feel part of the purpose of this unit and the upcoming one is to become aware and actively seek to engage these skills equally as a part of the lessons and lesson planning so that students are able to gain proficiency in all areas of language that is needed and will be useful to them. If a teacher is not conscious of this, they may leave out planning for and properly exercising the skill areas which students need to have to grasp the language as a whole. This unit also teaches examples of implementing the ESA methodology in teaching receptive skills to students and what I learnt from it is how to properly prepare the students for that. Things like gaining the interest of students, creating a desire to engage in the specific content, pre-teaching any difficult vocabulary and knowing the difference between authentic and non authentic texts, was helpful to understand and to learn so I can seek to achieve the best benefit to students learning,keep up their motivation and make exercises valuable and worthwhile within that skill area, which all plays a role in gaining English proficiency in its entirety not just relying on areas of strength at the expense of certain weaker areas.
