Students will have a difficult time with irregular past simple and will have to memorize the verb conjugations. Past simple negative needs ‘did not’ or ‘didn’t’ before the base form. Past simple questions word order is did, subject, verb base form. Consider having the students write a curriculum vitae to practice past simple.
Past continuous is formed by using the past auxiliary verb be (was/were) +present participle (verb+ing). The negative past continuous is subject, was/were, not, verb+ing. The past continuous in question form is was/were, subject, verb+ing.

Past perfect activity for students: read them a story and have them reconstruct it from the ending to the beginning.
