Another class or group of that teachers may come across or find themselves teaching are the monolingual or multilingual class. the multilingual class are made up of students from different nationalities. This type of class is mostly found in countries where English is the native language. An advantage of students found in multilingual classes is the fact that they all have one thing in common, they all speak English and can therefore communicate with each other. Students from different cultural backgrounds also add variety and ideas to the classroom. On the other hand, monolingual classes usually take place in the students’ native country. It is also likely that they will all have the same kind of difficulties with English. Also, they have the same cultural background which can make it easier to identify certain topics that would be of interest to the group. Tips to consider when teaching this particular group is make the exercises more task-oriented, keep speaking activities short until students have more confidence and fluency.
